Job Description

We're looking for an experienced Staff Backend Engineer to help us scale the ZenHub platform to hundreds of thousands of daily users, and shape the future of project management for software teams around the world. Your mission would be cultivate innovation with our other backend engineers and execute on performance, stability, and scalability projects across multiple teams.

The ideal candidate is proficient with Ruby on Rails, has a track record of shipping high quality production features and systems, and has a reputation for being an engineering team leader that continuously improves all aspects of the development process.

Ideal team members are technical enough to get their hands dirty and product-focused enough to help translate customer requests into product features.

What we'll accomplish together:

  • Foster a culture of growth, innovation and ownership on the team.
  • Lead designs of major software components, systems and features.
  • Contribute to the ideation, technical design, implementation, and testing of product features.
  • Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and coding best practices.
  • Identify technical problems before they arise and execute plans to avoid them.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Has proven experience building scalable web applications.
  • Quickly gains proficiency when exposed to unfamiliar technical patterns, systems, or languages.
  • Has a strong ability to influence without requiring reporting authority.
  • Has proficiency with Ruby on Rails or other popular server-side programming languages.
  • Has experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB and other types of data-stores, and understands which should be used for which given problem.
  • Consistently stays on top of new backend trends, methodologies and best practices.
  • Communicates well, works well with others, and isn't afraid to speak up to drive discussions. Can collaborate with non-technical folks, and ensure we continue to move the product forward.

Bonus points if you have the following:

  • Experience building browser extensions or user scripts.
  • Experience with deep third-party API integrations (eg. GitHub).
